ACEC NEBRASKA COMMITTEES

The best way to get involved is to join a committee!

ACEC Nebraska’s member-driven committees connect engineers and effectively carry out the goals and strategic plans of our organization. Committees undertake a wide range of activities and provide members opportunities for growth and professional development. All committees promote the engineering profession. Serving on a committee could have you working with the Nebraska Legislature, providing information on business issues or membership development services, or recommending regulations to protect the industry. From legislative advocacy to environmental issues, ACEC NE has a committee for you.

Lincoln Engineering Partnership Committee (LEP)

The LEP committee partners with the City of Lincoln, and specifically Lincoln Transportation & Utilities (LTU) to serve as a liaison, provide dialogue, present issues of concern, problem solve, and build/improve relations with city officials representing Lincoln. The LEP Committee organizes a Partnership Workshop each Spring.

Omaha Engineering Partnership Committee (OEP)

The OEP committee partners with the City of Omaha, most directly with the Public Works Department, to serve as a liaison, provide dialogue, present issues of concern, problem solve, and build/improve relations with city officials representing Omaha. The OEP Committee holds a Partnership Workshop each Fall.

Nebraska Department of Transportation Committee (NDOT)

The NDOT Committee partners with the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) to serve as a liaison, provide dialogue, present issues of concern, problem solve, and build/improve relations with NDOT officials and work together on transportation related issues. The NDOT Committee, NDOT and other partners hold a Transportation Conference each Fall. A call for presentations is released in the Spring prior to the Transportation Conference.

Private Client Committee

Represents the interests of firms engaged in the private client market. Ensure that issues and opportunities pertinent to private-client markets are highlighted in ACEC’s ongoing business and legislative programs. Establish positive relationships with private client markets to dialogue, present issues of concern, and problem solve. Develop private market programs of interest to the membership.

Small Firms Committee

The Small Firms committee works to create networking, collaboration, and knowledge sharing opportunities between the Small Firms (less than approximately 40 employees) of Nebraska ACEC. These efforts are intended to build stronger and more robust companies, advocate for the roles of small engineering firms in the engineering industry in Nebraska, and help grow the competency of the leadership operating them.

Legislative Committee

Promotes the legislative interests of ACEC Nebraska through a program designed to assist members in meeting elected officials, review, monitor, and propose legislation pertaining to the business of consulting and/or the various disciplines relating to the field of engineering and inform committees and members of legislation that affects the Council.

Workforce Development Committee

Promotes engineering careers and advances workforce development across Nebraska. Initiatives include: engage the University of Nebraska College of Engineering via our Mentoring Emerging Engineers Together (MEET) program; provide K-12 education with information and guidance on promoting future engineers; partner with organizations to provide information and education to those interested in engineering careers; and create networks with potential employers.

Political Action Committee (ACEC NE PAC)

The ACEC Nebraska PAC Committee is separate from ACEC Nebraska. Trustee Firms who donate $1,000 or more per calendar year have voting privileges. Those who donate less than $1,000 may attend the PAC meeting and discussion, but do not have voting rights. The PAC meets several times each to discuss contributions to state officials and other campaigns & initiatives that affect the interests of ACEC NE members.

Water, Environment, & Energy Committee (WEE)

Provide members and related agencies opportunities to interact and exchange ideas and information with the purpose to: integrate the widely diversified disciplines identified as the fields of environmental engineering and consulting; develop consensus positions; undertake a proactive legislative and regulatory advocacy program; develop public and private market programs of interest; and communicate on environmental energy issues that will affect their businesses.

Mechanical, Electrical, & Plumbing Committee (MEP)

Represent the interests of firms engaged in mechanical/electrical/plumbing engineering. The committee’s goals include: advocating for consistency & clarity from Code Officials; advocating for privatization and quality-based selection (QBS) by utilities and governments; evaluating MEP-related legislation; and educating public officials and elected representatives on MEP- related interests.
